Authentication certificate missing from a CAC issued before Feb 2018

Symptoms

Army 365 (or any PIV-required site) does not show an 'Authentication' certificate in the picker.

Likely cause

CACs issued before February 2018 did not have the PIV/Authentication certificate pre-activated, so the slot is empty.

Fix

1. If the card is still in date (CAC lifespan max 3 years), activate the PIV cert at https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/self_service while signed in with the existing certificate. 2. Otherwise visit an ID card office for a new CAC, which will ship with PIV pre-activated. 3. The same activation also updates your email address from @mail.mil to @army.mil.
